Let your AI agent see, record and demo your Mac.
Recoly's command-line tool and MCP server give Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and any MCP client a local screen recorder: screenshots it can look at, bug-repro recordings, polished demo videos and on-device transcripts.
Set up in a minute
- 1
Install Recoly 0.9 or later
Download it, move it to Applications and open it once.
- 2
Connect your agents
In Recoly, open Settings (the gear) → Command line & AI agents → Connect Claude Code, Codex, Cursor. Or use the Terminal commands below.
- 3
Restart your agent
It loads the Recoly MCP server. Try asking it to take a screenshot of your screen.
From the Terminal
curl -fsSL https://recoly.app/install-cli.sh | sh
recoly agents install --target claude --dry-run
recoly agents install --target claude --yes # or: codex · cursor · allAdds the recoly command, then registers the MCP server (preview first with --dry-run).
Any MCP client
{
"mcpServers": {
"recoly": {
"command": "/Applications/Recoly.app/Contents/Resources/native/bin/darwin-arm64/recoly",
"args": ["mcp", "serve"]
}
}
}Paste into your client's MCP config. Get the exact path for your Mac with recoly agents print-config.
Or let your agent do it
Paste this into Claude Code, Codex or Cursor:
Read https://recoly.app/agents and set up Recoly's MCP server for me. Show me each config change and ask before applying it.What your agent can do
| recoly_screenshot | Capture the screen, a window or an area — and look at the image. |
| recoly_record_start · recoly_record_stop | Record a bug reproduction or a demo. You see the recording controls the whole time. |
| recoly_export | Render MP4, GIF, WebM or ProRes with auto-zoom, background, a saved preset and any aspect ratio. |
| recoly_transcript | On-device Whisper transcript with timestamps. |
| recoly_targets | List the displays and windows that can be captured. |
| recoly_doctor | Check permissions and get the exact fix when something is missing. |
| recoly_recordings_list · recoly_presets_list | Find recent recordings and saved styles. |
Things to ask your agent
- “Reproduce the checkout bug, record it, and give me a GIF for the issue.”
- “Take a screenshot and tell me why this modal looks off.”
- “Record a 30-second demo of the feature you just built and export 16:9 and 9:16 versions with my Brand preset.”
- “Transcribe my last recording and list the action items.”
- “Check whether Recoly has the permissions it needs.”
- “Export my last recording as a 720p GIF.”
Safe by design
- Local only: the CLI talks to the app over a private socket that only your macOS user can open. No ports, no cloud, no account.
- You stay in control: turn agent access off in Settings any time. A notification appears when an agent starts recording, and ⌘⇧3 stops it.
- Your agent's own approval prompts still apply to every tool call.
- Config changes can be previewed with --dry-run, and Recoly backs files up before touching them.
- Your plan applies: 4K, ProRes, WebM and Studio quality need Pro; Free exports carry a small watermark.
